The bear and the strawberry tree is the symbol of Madrid. The bear accompanied by a tree (strawberry tree) appears in the 13th century on the city coat of arms and continues in various versions to this day. In 1967 a statue was inaugurated located in the Puerta del Sol, now a popular meeting point for Madrid residents and people visiting the capital.
